Kaby Lake: Intel introduces Xeon E3-1200 v6

Intel has Xeon E3-1200 v6 presented its product family, generation of core processors based on the Kaby Lake architecture like the 7. The new Xeon-E3 processors are intended for entry-level workstations, Small Business Server and storage server as the predecessor. Prices remain at the level of the last generation. At the same time the offer systems with already installed E3 v6 processors come.

first eight processors, which later versions with lower energy requirements should follow some models come on the market. The high end versions offer a maximum base clock rate of 3.9 GHz and a Turbo mode 4.2 GHz at 72 or 73 Watts. All have 8 MByte L3 cache. Support ECC RAM, vPro and software-guard extensions, such as earlier Xeons by the manufacturer as professionally advertised features.

the last digit of 5 models offer HD P630 as internal graphics, which pulses with up to 1150 MHz. It is a variant of the Intel HD graphics integrated in regular desktop chips 630. Leistungsmäßig computing cores such as the GPU are higher equipped models of current Kaby Lake processors of the Intel Core i5 and core i7 series.

thus also the new Xeon E3 does not provide a significant performance gain compared to the last year’s, yet Skylake-based generation. Like Xeon E3 v5 Intel continues to focus on the socket LGA 1151 and the chipsets C232 and C236. Want to change existing motherboards on a Xeon E3 v6 owners, they have to wait but a firmware update.

due to the modest performance of the previous generation prefers the chip maker, similar models to compare with, which already appeared on the market years ago. He called about by up to 56 percent higher performance compared to E3-1280 v2, which is still often in entry-level workstations in smaller companies in operation. HD graphics P630 offer a graphics performance, enhanced by a factor of 3 – also relatively to E3-1280 v2.
